Last Topic "Windows Printer Setup"
You may wish to use USB printers for local receipt printers. These printers have greater drawbacks: printing logos are more difficult to setup. Follow the same instructions for a Windows printer setup if you choose to use USB printers. If these instructions do not work, use the alternative method out below. The instructions below do allow for printing logo and normal cash drawer operations.
**NOTE: The new RM Spool Setup program allows Windows printers to be incorporated into the Restaurant Manager Spooler. This is geared mainly towards USB printers which must be setup using the drivers that came from printer manufacturer and not as Windows Generic/Text. To incorporate a Windows printer into RM Spool, simply select the Windows Printer under Printer Type and for the Windows Printer name, select the printer from the list of printers.
In some cases, USB printers may not work with RMSpool. In this case, you can by RMSpool and use Windows spool program. Unfortunately, Windows will not retain any print jobs that are lost due to a down printer (i.e. out of paper.) Therefore, the following instruction should be used for guest check/receipt printers only. Setting up USB printers outside RMSpool should allow for cash drawers and logo printing (thermal printers only).
Use the following instruction to create a printer on the station computer. Note: you may have to install the printer drivers if Windows does not recognize the device.
Attach the printer to the computer
Open Windows "Devices and Printers"
Click "Add Printer"
Choose "Add a local printer" in the Add Printer window
Choose the "Use existing Port" and navigate to the USB port with the printer attached. Click "Next"
Under the Manufacturer list choose the "Generic" option, click "Next"
Make sure the radio button "Keep existing drivers is selected"
Name the printer in the "Printer Name" field. Keep the letter under 8 characters if possible and do not use spaces (i.e. receipt1).
Select the Yes" radio button for the use as default printer option.
The share name should be the same as the printer name. click "Next".
The fields in the location window do not need to be filled out, click "Next"
You can print a test page if you wish.
Steps 1-12 must be used on each station where a USB printer is being used, only the naming conventions should be changed.
The following setting must be used to make sure the printer cuts and prints properly:
Right Click on the printer in the Printers windows and select "Properties.
Click the "Advanced" tab and click "Printing Defaults" and the "Advanced" button. make sure the paper size is set to "letter and that "Advanced Printing features " is enabled. Click "OK"
While in the Printing Defaults window, click the "Paper/Quality" tab. Suing the drop down menu, select the "Cut Sheet" option, click "OK"
Exit from the printer properties.
The printer on the station must be added to the server computer as a network printer:
Open Windows Devices and Printers
Click "Add a Printer"
Select "Add a network...printer"
Select the station printer on the list (i.e. receipt1 on Station1), click "Next"
Click "Next" when after the printer has been successfully installed.
Click "Finished" on the last window.
Steps 1 thru 6 must be repeated for each USB check printer.
The last part of the process is adding the printer path in RM BackOffice module's Station Configuration
Open Station Configuration in the RM BackOffice
Select the station on the Stations list for the printer to be added. Example, add receipt1 to Station 1.
Navigate to Devices à POS Printers àPOS Printer Port and Model Selections à Receipt/Check.
Since we are not using RMSpool , you must type the physical path of the printer in the Primary Device field. Example: \\station1\receipt1.
Printer type, in most cases you can use Epson TMT80/85 for the printing codes for thermal printers. You might have to experiment with other codes if these do not work.
These settings must be used for all POS Printers. These same settings can be used for cash drawers as well.
